4 days old
Well… it’s my first night alone with Thor (DH went back to work tonight) and so far we’re doing good. We went to bed at 10pm… woke up at midnight. Had a “midnight snack” and he went back to sleep. He’s woken up a couple of times but only because he lost his pacifier. I had to get up for meds, so I thought I’d post before going back to bed again. I feel good getting 2 hours at a time… I’m totally loving my mellow baby.
Today a local health nurse came by and checked on us….weighed Thor and he had gained a whole ounce since coming home 24 hours before that. Gee…maybe I knew what I was doing when I started pumping and feeding him by bottle (the hospital nurses tried to make me feel bad about it…. guess I’m not as dumb as I look!). She is concerned because I still have very bad swelling in my feet and legs…so she’s coming by in the morning to check my blood pressure and weigh Thor again. Hopefully I won’t have to go see the doc tomorrow….I’m really not up to going out just yet.
I have to say that even though it’s not for everyone, pumping has been so great for me. My milk came in full force this morning and I now have 9 oz. of milk stored in the fridge…which means when I need a nap while DH is home (and awake) – he can feed baby and I can have a looong snooze. HEAVEN!
Ok… I best go get more sleep.

Hey! It sounds like you are doing good despite the swelling and all. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for your decision to pump…you know what’s best for your child.
That is a really sweet picture!
Slings are great, aren’t they?
I have been following your blog since March, I just have to tell you that Thor is sooo cute!! Congratulations. You have really been a trooper through all of this and an inspiration to so many. Enjoy motherhood, you deserve it.
Congratulations! He is just gorgeous!
As for the pumping – I did the same thing and our oldest is just fine. When she was about a month old she started nursing a lot better (she used to just fall asleep everytime I tried to nurse her so that’s why I was pumping and then bottle feeding her)…anyway, I didn’t mind pumping at all so I kept it up. I would nurse her in the morning and at bedtime but all other feedings were from the bottle.
Another thing that is nice about pumping – not only can DH give Thor the bottle but so can anyone else if they’re visiting – people love feeding babies and I know I certainly didn’t mind the break
congrats, he’s beautiful!!
My lactation consultant was a royal pain, she discouraged me from pumping too. But I ignored her and it worked so well for me. I was “inverted”, so nursing was so hard for me and my little guy. The pump really helped. Another thing that I found really helpful was the sylicone nipple shields. I bought mine at Target, and they helped nathan latch on (and also made it much less painful for me) I wouldn’t have made it without it. FWI, my lacatation consultant hated the whole nipple shield thing too. She acted like anything other than “skin to skin” confused the baby and would hurt my milk supply. It aggravvates me how narrow minded she was about it. If they were more open minded about new techniques, I feel like alot more woman would attemt nursing. Just don’t let ‘em getcha down. Whatever works for little Thor and you is best.
Absolutely beautiful.
He is so cute! Aww I’ve been reading your blog watching you go through all of this and my goodness isnt that little man just so worth it!
I can’t wait for all of this my self! CONGRATS AGAIN!!! Wow what a cutie!
