stress…

2008 September 9

It’s been a stressful few days.

This weekend DH and I took Ashley back to her mom’s… we won’t see her again until December. :(

Monday morning I got a call from my mom – dad had a stroke.  I rush over the the hospital and stay there all day with them while waiting to find out what’s happenening.  Finally…at 2pm (he’s been in since 4am) the let us know he had a “Right brained” stroke with left body side effects.  Meaning, his left side is pooched right now.

He’s slow… he can’t walk steadily, he can’t feel most of his left side… the list goes on.

They did release him under the condition that someone stays with him all the time – in case he gets worse, etc.  Sooo… after my prenatal check-up this morning, I’m going to releive my mom so she can go to work and get something done.  I’ll chill out with dad.  I’ll probably be “baby sitting” him all week.

….not that I mind.  He’s my daddy and I love him… and really, do I have anything better to do now that Ashley isn’t here?  Nope.  Well, I guess I could be getting baby stuff ready but I think I’ll have plenty of time for that later…. I hope. ;)

PS. I’m officially in my 3rd trimester… can I get a “wooot wooot!” ?? :D

my dad has just had (2 months ago) his second stroke, the first to affect hiim physically. the first just affected speech and cognitive thinking. He’s getting sicker and sicker by the day … he’s refused to get any assistance medically so pretty much, refusing intervention and getting sicker and sicker by the day. They’re so in denial. I hope your dad isn’t as freakin’ stubborn!

BTW, did you know your mom can go through EI to have some short-term leave made available as a result of his condition? I’m not entirely sure of the specifics and I think it’s a case-by-case basis. This may allow her to stay home without losing too much income. Hope that helps. If you have enough EI hours, you too may qualify for this. Only one person can claim this time to assist the family member, so it’d have to be either her or you. And, if you have enough hours for mat leave, you may be able to roll from one right into the other.

Good luck with that, and message me if you have any questions.

Thanks Anji – I’m actually already on EI … which is why I can stay with my dad…I’ve got nothing else to do! :)

Sorry about your dad too…hope he gets better soon.

Oh, Erin. I’m sorry to hear about your Dad’s stroke.

I can’t believe you’re in your 3rd trimester already! Do you feel like you’ve been pregnant forever?
