Guess I’ll have to wait a little bit longer

2008 April 8

So.. My doctor doesn’t think it’s ectopic, considering I’ve had no bleeding. However, he does think that I probably have a corpus luteum cyst…which can be very painful. I have an “emergency” ultrasound for Thursday morning to make sure baby is okay. (I say “emergency” because in my small hick-town it takes 2 days for an emergency appointment at the hospital….) My doctor said, “this is a very precious pregnancy, and I want to make sure everything is alright. I also want to make sure you’re not worried.” awwww…. so until I see him after my scan on Thursday I’ve been told to take it easy and NO SEX. Poor DH.

And for those who don’t know about corpus luteum cysts…..

  • Corpus luteum cyst. When LH does surge and your egg is released, the ruptured follicle begins producing large quantities of estrogen and progesterone in preparation for conception. This changed follicle is now called the corpus luteum. Sometimes, however, the escape opening of the egg seals off and fluid accumulates inside the follicle, causing the corpus luteum to expand into a cyst.Although this cyst usually disappears on its own in a few weeks, it can grow to almost 4 inches in diameter and has the potential to bleed into itself or twist the ovary, causing pelvic or abdominal pain. If it fills with blood, the cyst may rupture, causing internal bleeding and sudden, sharp pain. The fertility drug clomiphene citrate (Clomid, Serophene), which is used to induce ovulation, increases the risk of a corpus luteum cyst developing after ovulation. These cysts don’t prevent or threaten a resulting pregnancy.

I know that I had HORRIBLE pain from my inflammed ovaries from about 5 to 8 weeks with this pregnancy. The ultrasound confirmed they were fine, just enlarged from retrieval. So, it would make sense that it’s a cyst causing you the pain.

    Keep us posted.

Erin, if I’m this “sitting on the edge of my seat” for you for tomorrow’s appointment, I can only imagine how you must be feeling. I’ll be thinking of you until we get an update here…
    GOOD LUCK!
P.S. I also had some pain in my ovaries during my pregnancy from leftover “drugs” in my body from all the fertility treatments. So, maybe it is just a cyst?

I had one of those last month and it was painful. Mine went away on it’s own in just a matter of days, so hopefully yours will too. Good luck

Oh… damn. I just realized there’s a huge time gap between you and me. Silly me. It’s only 05h40 there now! It’s already 15h40 on this side of the planet. My bad.
    Still thinking of you.
